Dissident radio stations from Romania’s communist times, decorated
BBC Romania and Europa Liberă were decorated by Romanian president, in a ceremony attended by several representatives of these media institutions.
The head of state granted the two radio stations the Order “Cultural Merit in the Rank of High Officer.”
According to the decree signed by the president, the orders were granted “for the professionalism, impartiality and consistency” with which they have promoted the values of western culture in Romania.
People attending the ceremony included Emil Hurezeanu, Traian Ungureanu, Rodica Culcer, Dan Tapalaga, Adelina Radulescu and Ciprian Balţoiu, Claudiu Secaşiu. In addition, the ceremony was attended by the US and UK Ambassadors, Nicholas Taubman and Robin Barnett.
