Dimitri Medvedev, Russian president, entered the Twitter community, with the online id @KremlinRussia_E

He posted his first tweet during a tour at Twitter headquarters. "Hello everyone! I’m on Twitter, and this is my first tweet" and "San Francisco is a very beautiful city. Heading to Silicon Valley today to visit Apple, Yandex and Cisco" were the first two tweets published on the account.

The entrance of the Russian president on Twitter was greeted by the White House. "Welcome to @twitter President Medvedev! RT @KremlinRussia_E: Hello everyone! I’m on Twitter, and this is my first tweet" was the welcome message posted by the US administration.

According to Ria Novosti, Medvedev registered KremlinRussia for Russian and KremlinRussia_e for English language tweets.

The Russian president is on a three-day official visit to the United States that began with a dinner with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and ends on Thursday after talks with President Barack Obama in Washington.

Medvedev, who portrays himself as a young and technologically savvy leader, has a blog on LiveJournal and an account on YouTube.

On the other hand, Barack Obama, whose presidential campaign broke new ground with its use of the Internet, was one of the first heads of state to have Twitter and Facebook accounts, Ria Novosti says.
