The Polish town new logo sparked controversies
A new logo for Polish city of Nowy Sacz generated controversies, some residents associating it with palmistry and Satanism.
The logo has the form of a palm, is colorful and has, in the middle, a black spot that represents the Town Hall in the center of the city. Some people, including the local priests, demanded the logo and town’s slogan – “Nowy Sacz gives you good fortune” – to be changed, because Church does not allow for fortune-telling and because a black spot in the center of a palm symbolizes the authority of the devil over the individual.
Mayor of Nowy Sacz defended the logo, saying that an open right hand is an international symbol of “goodwill and agreement”, while the rainbow colors used symbolize the “multiculturalism” of the town.
