The Alternative School for Creative Thinking opens up entries for young Romanian designers
The young Romanian designers interested in qualifying for the international competition Young Lions – Design Cannes can apply starting March 6th 2013, through The Alternative School for Creative Thinking. Creatives passionate about branding and visual identity with ages 18-28, freelancers or employees of creative agencies, are invited to apply for the Cannes semester until 17th of March 2013.
The best 3 teams, with outstanding portfolios, will be awarded scholarships with the help of the strategic partnership Visualart.ro – Enlightening, which will also be constituting the jury. The applicants must upload their creative portfolios (design) on the most important on-line community dedicated to digital art in Romania, Visualart.ro, in order to take part in the selection process.
We are happy to support the creative potential in Romania, because behind the concept of Enlightening’s leadership events there is the courage of being different, the passion to evolve and the determination to make things happen. The Romanian creatives have long put their country on the world’s map and have shown year after year that limits only exist in one’s head

Visualart.ro came to life from the desire of bringing together ideas and “unreal” executions within digital art. In the past 13 years, the online platform has become a true local barometer of creative talent, a school in itself and a clearly defined community which generated niche values enjoyed by brands worldwide. That is exactly why our support in the Young Lions – Design competition comes naturally and authentically

Cannes semester 2013’s teachers are top performers in their respective fields both home and abroad. Over the past 8 years, 215 graduates took advantage of international specialization at Cannes Lions, Eurobest and Dubai Lynx.
In its 8th year, The Alternative School offers an unique educational experience, where practitioners with remarkable results, both Romanian and foreigners, share their expertise, evaluate the students’ solutions, give constructive feedback and offer advice for exercising the abilities of Creative Thinking. At the end of the program which functions by the principles “learning by admiring, learning by doing”, the best graduates will qualify for the next level: study and compete in Cannes Lions 2013, the most reputed event dedicated to creativity worldwide.
The subjects tackled in the Cannes semester at The Alternative School // Design – the 8th year – will develop in the following directions: “design in the digital era”, “branding and visual identity”, “what is an inspired brief”, “conciseness and expressiveness”, “functionality in design” and “the relevance of fusion communication”.
The entire educational program is put together by its founder, Teodora Migdalovici, Cannes Lions ambassador in Romania.
At The Alternative School, real briefs are given and the competitions are evaluated by the program’s teachers and guest speakers. Among them, there are professionals now working for companies in the big creative capitals of the world (Ioana Halunga and Nick Roberts – Havas Excelis / Singapore; Ionut Radulescu – Pearl Fisher / New York; Pedro Americo – Traktor / Hamburg).
The semester is 6 weeks long, comprising of 3 meetings per week. The fee for taking part in the Cannes semester is 500 euros.
