PayU: Sales doubled in online retail compared to 2012
Romanian online retail sales increased 141% from January to July 2013, compared to the same period in 2012, PayU reports.
PayU came up with those conclusions by analyzing the total value of the ordered products in retail stores that are using PayU a payment method. Retail includes stores that sell books, electronics and appliances, IT&C, flowers, toys, gifts, confections and also other products.
The 141% increase is justified both by entering of over 200 new retails stores in PayU portfolio during the last year, by the increase of trust in online payments on buyers’ side and by the entrance of important players such Carrefour is in e-commerce, with the first online hypermarket that offers food products, cosmetics and home cleaning products that are delivered to client’s homes.
The growth of e-tail industry is visible on all representative segments. Fashion continues to be the star sector, with a 450% growth, resulted from the appearance of a big number of new online stores. A very good evolution came also from IT&C (83%) and gifts (70%).
The medium value of shopping basket as, in the analyzed period of 2013, of Euro 45, down from Euro 65 a year ago.
PayU’s payment solutions are used by over 1,000 Romanian online retail stores, among which PC Garage, Elefant.ro, Fashion Days, F64, Floria, Floridelux.ro, Cărturești, Il Passo, Yokko, Librariile Humanitas, TinaR, Nissa, Miniprix, eMag or Carrefour-Online.
