Irinel Ionescu, Romania’s representative in Recreate Packaging 2014’s jury

Irinel Ionescu, Creative Partner AMPRO Design, was member in the jury of “Recreate Packaging 2014“, competition dedicated to packaging design initiated by Finnish paper and cardboard producer  Stora Enso and supported by Aalto University Helsinki.

This is the second time when Irinel Ionescu is present as member in an international jury after 2013, when he was a juror at EPDA (European Packaging Design Association) contest.

The other members of competition’s jury were

  • Heiner Gers-Barlag – Group Manager, Packaging Innovation, Beiersdorf AG,
  • Timo Pulkkinen – Country Manager, FedEx Finland Branch,
  • Ilona Törmikoski – Independent Design Consultant, Polku Consulting/ORNAMO member,
  • Mikko Koria – Professor, Head of IDBM Master’s program in Aalto University School of Business,
  • Ilkka Harju – Manager, Stora Enso Renewable Packaging,
  • Lasse Johansson – VP Commercial, Stora Enso Renewable Packaging.

The organizers of the competition in Finland, that had it first edition in 2012, aim to encourage designers to rethink packaging and to familiarize them with the idea of renewable materials, based on fibers. This year’s contest theme was tourism, so that the participants – both professionals and students – had to base their works on the idea of portability and reduced packaging weight. They had to redraw the packaging for 3 beauty/healthcare products and improve the actual standards.

The jury had the task to choose from a total of 118 entries from 20 countries. The winners of the 3 prizes – Euro 8,000, Euro 6,000 and Euro 4,000 – were designated on February 14th, while the awards ceremony will take place on May 8th, in Germany.
