GfK Romania released The Evolution of Sales of Technical Consumer Goods in Romania
The Romanian Consumer Goods (TCG) market, according to data audited by GfK Romania, continued the increasing trend in the second quarter of 2020. The increase in sales value was 5.2 % compared to the same period of 2019 and was determined by the growth of the IT , Office Equipment and Small Appliances sectors.
In the context of the Covid-19 Crisis in the global TCG market, IT, Office Equipment and Small Appliances were the only sectors which registered an increasing trend of sales in the second quarter of 2020. In the European market, a similar evolution of the TCG sectors was registered. The Covid-19 crisis also generated a decreasing trend for the consumer confidence index, with the European average in June 2020 reaching a value of -15.6, decreasing from -7, the value recorded in December 2019.
In the Romanian market, the Information Technology (IT) and Office Equipment (OE) sectors registered an increase of 67.9% in April – June 2020, respectively 75.7%, compared to the same period of 2019. The evolution of the IT sector was influenced by the increases registered of mobile computing and pointing devices.
The Small Domestic Appliances (SDA) registered a substantial increase in sales, 31.7%. The largest increases in this sector were registered by electrical hair clippers and shavers.
The largest sector of the TCG market, Telecom, registered a decrease of 10% in the same period, an evolution generated by the decrease of sales for Smart and Mobilephones. Major Domestic Appliances (MDA), the second most important sector in the market, registered an almost flat evolution (-0.7% compared to the same period of 2019), the largest increases recorded in the sector being for freezer sales and tumble dryers.
Sales in the Consumer Electronics (CE) and Photo (Photo) sectors registered in the second quarter of 2020 decreases of 3.2% respectively 40.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. The decrease in sales of Consumer Electronics was influenced by the decrease in sales of TVs and camcorders.
