2009 crisis hit the Romanian TVs
The economical crisis that affected Romania in 2009 also affected the TV stations that posted, on their financial situation for last year, losses of millions of euro.
This way, the TV stations owned by Dan Voiculescu – Antena – registered some minor profits, but all the other TV stations on the market were on minus at the end of 2009 financial year.
According to Adevarul, Realitatea Media, that had the operational licenses for the Realitatea TV & Money Channel, but also operates the radio stations Realitatea FM and Radio Guerilla, reported a deficit of Euro 39M in 2009.
The shrink of the advertising market was fully resented by the TV market leader, Pro TV, TV station operated by CME after Adrian Sarbu sold his remaining participation to the company he is leading as CEO. Pro TV SA – Pro TV, Acasa TV, Sport.ro, Pro Cinema, MTVand Pro TV International – posted a loss of Euro 1.4M, according to Register of Commerce data. This loss is the first that Pro TV S.A. announces after years of being the most profitable TV business on Romanian market.
Although it figures as having looses in 2009, Pro TV is still leader on Romanian TV market, seconded by Antena 1.
Also on loss were the companies that own the licenses for Kanal D, Prima TV and B1 TV.
