BBC World Service considers hosting ads on its websites
BBC’s director of global news, Peter Horrocks, said that BBC considers introducing ads on some of the World Service’s 31 foreign-language websites, in a “seismic shift” of the organization, Media Guardian says.
The ads could provide a new stream of revenue for BBC.
The announcement was made after the confirmation come regarding the budget cut of 16% for BBC.
Also, the responsibles of BBC take in consideration closing BBC World services where they do not have an important impact
According to Media Guardian, some World Service foreign languages sites could take advertising as early as the first quarter of next year.
