The Romanian Cannes Lions 2018: 1 Gold, 3 Silvers and 5 Bronzes
2018 proved to be again a good year for the Romanian advertising industry, as 4 agencies won awards: McCann Worldgroup Bucharest, Publicis, Leo Burnett and Jazz Communication.
The only Gold of 2018 went to McCann Worldgroup Bucharest for the campaign “Bihor Couture”, client Beau Monde, that succeeded this big performance in the PR Lions – Low Budget/High Impact Campaign section. The campaign was also awarded a Silver (PR Lions – Brand Voice & Strategic Storytelling), and a Bronze (Brand Experience & Activation Lions /Media & Entertainment).
At the same time, the campaign was shortlisted at Direct – Low Budget/High Impact Campaign and Sustainable & Development Goals – Decent Work and Economic Growth.
McCann Worldgroup Bucharest was also shortlisted this year for “Race a nation” for Vodafone, in the categories Brand Experience & Activation Lions – Connected Experience and Brand-owned Experience and Media Lions – Use of Mobile; and for “Seen” for Coca-Cola, shortlisted in Media Lions/ Use of Mobile.
With these performances the agency reaches a total of 33 trophies at Cannes Lions for Romania, improving on its previous record.
The only Romanian independent agency to win in 2018, Jazz Communication proved that receiving the Gold Lion two years ago wasn’t just a beautiful happening, by winning a Silver Lion for the campaign Magic Makers – “Take A Seat / Together for MagicHOME” , in the Health & Wellness Lions – Fundraising & Advocacy – Brand Experience & Activation category. The same campaign was also nominated 5 more times in the categories: Health & Wellness – Fundraising & Advocacy – Ambient Outdoor, Direct – Co-creation & User Generated Content, Direct – Low Budget / High Impact Campaign, PR – Use of Celebrity, Influencers & Key Opinion Leaders and Sustainable & Development Goals – Good Health and Well-being.
The same campaign was also a winner of the Grand Effie 2018 in Romania, of a Gold at Gala Societatii Civile, etc.
Publicis Romania won 4 awards: one Silver, for “The Nest Address”, client Enel, in Mobile Lions – Activation by Location, and three Bronzes for Enel – “The Nest Address” (Health & Wellness Lions – Animal Health – Mobile and Sustainable Development Goals – Life on Land), and for Burger King – “Whopper No-Show” (Direct Lions – Acquisition & Retention).
The agency accumulated another 5 shortlists for: Enel Romania – “The Nest Address” la Mobile – Utility Apps,Health & Wellness – Animal Health – Creative Data: Use of Real-Time Data Direct;and Renault Romania – “Doodle Mats”- Product Design Lions – Product Design for Promotional Purposes and Direct Lions – Experience Design.
Leo Burnett Romania, the first agency in Romania to ever win a Lion in Cannes, got this year a Bronze for the campaign “Vlogger’s Swap”, client Telekom Romania, in PR Lions – Social Community Building & Management). Moreover, the campaign received a shortlist in PR at Use of Celebrity, Influencers & Key Opinion Leaders.
Last year, only two agencies representing Romania – Publicis and McCann Worldgroup Bucharest succeeded in winning at the festival. Publicis scored 1 Silver and 3 Bronzes, while McCann got 2 Bronzes.
