5th Forum NOMOS Glashütte approached the future of watch industry

All News, Business, Events, Marketing

Journalists, specialist retailers, and watch and fashion influencers from around the world gathered at the NOMOS Forum on Monday and Tuesday to take a look at the future of watchmaking.

Set against the impressive backdrop of a repurposed church overlooking the town of Glashütte, the watchmaking company’s in-house event, taking place for the fifth time, treated guests to expert presentations by the renowned British watch journalist Robin Swithinbank and internationally acclaimed Berlin-based stylist Kamilla Richter. The former raised the question of whether the future of the industry lies more in design than technology, while the latter placed the 31 Colors edition of Tangente 38 date in the context of contemporary art and fashion collections.

‘The NOMOS R&D department unveiled a new, magnificently decorated hand-wound caliber with quick date adjustment: DUW 4601, the independent company’s twelfth proprietary caliber.

As NOMOS stands for independence, iconic design, and mechanical excellence—as well as for social responsibility, on Tuesday morning, Judith Borowski, Uwe Ahrendt, and Roland Schwertner were awarded the German Federal Order of Merit at Schloss Bellevue in Berlin for their “post-reunification success story.” This accolade underscores the outstanding role that NOMOS has played in Glashütte since its founding on January 1, 1990.

A highlight of the NOMOS Forum was the unveiling of Tangente 2date—a hand-wound watch with a 37.5-millimeter diameter and unique dual date displays: the patented date ring shows the month at a glance, while the large window at 6 o’clock shows the current date. And the extra-large sapphire crystal glass back reveals the newly constructed DUW 4601 proprietary caliber, adorned with fine sunbeam ribbing, which has a power reserve of 52 hours. Iconic modern design and traditional opulence are combined in one watch—demonstrating the art of dating in the most elegant way
